2006 Christian Education Sabbath

Thought Starter

Jesus moved from town to town, proclaiming the gospel and demonstrating the compassion of God. Eventually, He stopped by his hometown synagogue and read from the prophet Isaiah. After the reading, he began his teaching with, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

At first, the people were amazed at the words of Jesus. Then, when the time came to choose what to do with his words, they rejected the message and tried to kill the messenger. This rejection did not end his ministry. He continued going from town to town and from synagogue to synagogue. He had to preach the good news of the kingdom of God. He had to demonstrated the power and compassion of God.

At first, his popularity grew among the people. The gathered crowds were soon too big to fit in synagogues. Then, when His time had come, he was rejected by the crowds, the leaders, the soldiers, and even by some he called friends. Then, he was killed.

This rejection did not end his ministry. God raised Jesus from the dead. At first, his friends were afraid. Then, they were comforted. Then, they prayed. Then, they rejoiced. Then, they spoke.

Information

The 2006 Christian Education Sabbath is scheduled for the Sabbath immediately following Labor Day (Sabbath, September 9, 2006).

The theme of this year's Christian Education Sabbath is Evangelism. This year's support material includes a bulletin cover, bulletin insert, a children's message, a skit, a responsive reading, and a puzzle page. These are designed to fit within a worship service that is emphasizing the importance finding ways to grow together in Christ by acting in evangelism.

Don't miss the skit. It can be quite helpful in illustrating the importance of Sabbath School in evangelism.
