Job 34:11-15
For according to the work of a man he will repay him,
and according to his ways he will make it befall him.
Of a truth, God will not do wickedly,
and the Almighty will not pervert justice.
Who gave him charge over the earth,
and who laid on him the whole world?
If he should set his heart to it
and gather to himself his spirit and his breath,
all flesh would perish together,
and man would return to dust. (ESV)
by Dale E. Rood
Is this really true? Consider that this is from Job’s “comforters,” who had made up their minds that Job was suffering because he was guilty. In all the wisdom in the book of Job however, there is truth. The problem is not truth, but how truth is used. Yes, God does hold us responsible for our deeds. Consider the stuff we build on the foundation of Jesus Christ in 1 Corinthians 3:12-14. But let us be sure that salvation from sin is not included in that reward; that is a gift given for the asking by Jesus to the truly repentant.
