Job 38:1-7

38:1 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
Dress for action like a man;
I will question you, and you make it known to me.

“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
On what were its bases sunk,
or who laid its cornerstone,
when the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy? (ESV)

by Dale E. Rood

When we face tough times, we cry out for God to reveal himself.“If I could only get through to God,” we think, “then everything will be all right.” The trouble is when God does reveal himself, it isn’t always or even necessarily comfortable. We want God to be the nice gentleman who will come and hold our hand and tell us that everything is OK. God does do that, but he also comes to us with hard questions, with awesome power, and with the demeanor that seems to say, “Who do you think you are?” Are you willing, when you cry out to God, to let him reveal himself on his terms?
