Proverbs 2:16-22

So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman,
from the adulteress with her smooth words,
who forsakes the companion of her youth
and forgets the covenant of her God;
for her house sinks down to death,
and her paths to the departed;
none who go to her come back,
nor do they regain the paths of life.

So you will walk in the way of the good
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
For the upright will inhabit the land,
and those with integrity will remain in it,
but the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and the treacherous will be rooted out of it. (ESV)

We cannot rely on our own resolve or innate“goodness” to carry us through. We have a sinful nature. Many times, I have resolved “not” to do something again, only to fall flat on my face the very next time I had the opportunity “not” to do it! All is not lost though, where we are weak, He is strong! God doesn’t want us to rely on our own goodness; he wants us to look to him. He alone can give us the wisdom and strength to “keep to the paths of the righteous” (v. 20).

We need to call out to him for wisdom and pray for guidance and the strength do follow his will. He will be faithful to answer and fill our hearts with wisdom and guide us with understanding.
