Proverbs 31:24-31

She makes linen garments and sells them;
she delivers sashes to the merchant.
Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates. (ESV)

At times, I do not really like the woman of Proverbs 31! How can a woman possibly do all that? I lose my temper, I leave dishes undone, and I don’t know how to sew! But I look at the instrumental women in my life: most importantly, my mother, Linda Butts, followed by others: Muriel Osborn, (my mother in law), Jean Pierce, Barb Green, Spin FitzRandolph, and the list goes on. Yes, they get angry, they sometimes leave things undone and may no

t always be 100% together either. Yet, their children rise up and call them blessed and their husbands praise them. Maybe those woman aren’t perfect in everyway, yet when I look at their lives they DO measure up to the Proverbs 31 woman. The women I have mentioned are not alone. Look around, they

fill your church. She may even look back at you in the mirror!
