John 10:1-5

10:1 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” (ESV)

by Paula Reynolds

Sheep are not very smart animals, left to their own devices they would be scattered and lost. However, the one thing that they have going for them is that they have the ability to recognize the voice of their shepherd and they listen when he calls. As sheep in God’s flock we also need to take the time to learn how to recognize the voice of Christ. Many things in the world today distract us from a relationship with Christ that will lead us to eternal and abundant life. The time we spend with Christ daily will help us to tune our ears to his call.
