Psalm 100

100:1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!

Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations. (ESV)

What a simple and yet uplifting message God gives us here! He made us, and we are his children, his people. I especially like the analogy that we are “the sheep of his pasture” (v. 3). Sometimes we don’t like to be thought of as sheep. They aren’t among the brightest of God’s creatures, and they tend to be blind followers. But I also picture sheep as soft, cuddly creatures, protected by a burly yet tenderhearted shepherd who will travel to the ends of the earth to save even one of his animals. We should continually thank and praise the Good Shepherd for his faithful, enduring love, and for his merciful care that stretches into eternity.
