Psalm 139:1-6
139:1 O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it. (ESV)

Soon after my husband’s death, I found myself focusing on some strange thoughts: Can Denny see what I’m doing? Can he hear what I’m saying? At first, I was desperate for any communication, even if it was only one-way. But, gradually, a funny thing happened: I reached the point where I didn’t want Denny to know things. Did he just see me dent the car? Did he hear those angry, poisonous words that just spewed from my mouth? Although it can be a little intimidating, it’s comforting that God knows us so well—our ways, our thoughts, our words, our hearts. He cares deeply for each and every one of us.
