Proverbs 2:6-15

For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of his saints.
Then you will understand righteousness and justice
and equity, every good path;
for wisdom will come into your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
discretion will watch over you,
understanding will guard you,
delivering you from the way of evil,
from men of perverted speech,
who forsake the paths of uprightness
to walk in the ways of darkness,
who rejoice in doing evil
and delight in the perverseness of evil,
men whose paths are crooked,
and who are devious in their ways. (ESV)

by Angie Osborn

In verses 6-8, we see what God does; he gives wisdom, understanding, knowledge, victory and protection. In verses 9-12, the “then” at the beginning of the passage refers us back to verses 1-5. If we look to the Lord for wisdom and understanding, then will have understanding, wisdom and discretion. Those sound like nice qualities to have! Verses 9–12 are promises: God will give us those, if we look to him! We have nothing to lose. As we look to the Lord, we become more in tune with him and develop a closer walk with him. As we develop a closer relationship with him, our actions become more reflective of him. I can’t think of a better deal!
