Proverbs 9:13-18
The woman Folly is loud;
she is seductive and knows nothing.
She sits at the door of her house;
she takes a seat on the highest places of the town,
calling to those who pass by,
who are going straight on their way,
“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
And to him who lacks sense she says,
“Stolen water is sweet,
and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
But he does not know that the dead are there,
that her guests are in the depths of Sheol. (ESV)

Just as Wisdom invites to come in and commune with her, Folly does as well. Unfortunately, Folly can be really loud. It calls to us in ways that may be difficult to turn down. Folly looks appealing, it looks fun. We are warned against folly (foolishness) repeatedly throughout the bible. Foolishness leads us away from the Lord. Foolishness guides us into bad decisions. Foolishness subtracts from the quality of our lives. Foolishness leads to death. We need to be on our guard against foolishness. The best defense against Folly is our old friend Wisdom. Lean on the Lord’s wisdom. Ask him to guide you and lead you in His way. Seek his wisdom and live in his joy!
