Proverbs 31: 16-23
She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong.
She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.
She puts her hands to the distaff,
and her hands hold the spindle.
She opens her hand to the poor
and reaches out her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of snow for her household,
for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
She makes bed coverings for herself;
her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates
when he sits among the elders of the land. (ESV)

Hmmm, “the ideal wife”...that reminds me of a movie, The Stepford Wives. The wives in a remote town were beautiful on the outside. They stayed at home and cheerfully did housework, and were still able to meet their husbands at the door with a smile at the end of the day! How did they do it all? They were robots! I know I am FAR from the ideal wife, but I also don’t think that God or my husband would like me to be a robot.Sometimes when I read this passage, I feel like a failure, yet I think the intention was not to lay out an impossible standard, but to set things to strive for. None of us are perfect, but we can strive to be diligent, helpful, and a good steward of our time, talents and treasures.
