Lamentations 3:19-24
Remember my affliction and my wanderings,
the wormwood and the gall!
My soul continually remembers it
and is bowed down within me.
But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.” (ESV)

This writer is basically giving us a reality check (verse 22). If we look at our life and see how faithful God has been, we should be ashamed of the way that we behave sometimes. Do we realize that it is only because of God’s grace that we have not been destroyed? Despite our actions, the Lord God is faithful. We don’t deserve the blessings that we receive, but God still gives them to us. We need to recognize we are nothing without God.
