Luke 6:29-30

To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. (ESV)

by Paula Davis

God gives us a very tall order in this passage. The picture of true humility is when we don’t think twice about letting people take all we have. We are very possessive people, and it goes against every grain of our human nature to not fight back when someone wants to take what is ours. While we struggle so much with the idea of fairness as humans, God doesn’t promise to be a fair God, only to be just. He will bring wrongdoers to justice in his own time. It is not up to us to take care of things. And sometimes the love that we show to others in the midst of unfairness will bring them to Christ and his love.
