Psalm 28:6-9
Blessed be the Lord!
For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.
The Lord is the strength of his people;
he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!
Be their shepherd and carry them forever. (ESV)

The Lord longs to be our strength and wants to shield us from danger, sadness and sin. But we must call on him in order to receive the strength he offers us. It is through prayer that we receive the covering of our Savior. When we begin the day with prayer, we allow God to begin to shield us from any danger that might be ahead of us. And throughout the day God will continue to be our shield to protect us, and our strength to hold us up when we are discouraged or weak. At the end of a day that has been bathed in prayer, we will look back with thanks and praise to him for shielding us and strengthening us throughout our day.
