Luke 11:1-4

11:1 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” And he said to them, “When you pray, say:

“Father, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.

Give us each day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation.”
(ESV)

by Paula Davis

Jesus’ disciples wanted to learn from him and to please him. So it is no surprise that they asked him to teach them to pray. The way Jesus taught them to pray indicated the things that are the most important to him and his Father. Sometimes praying the Lord’s Prayer seems rote, and we lose the meaning of what is being said. This week take some time to look at the Lord’s Prayer in a fresh light, maybe imagine Jesus speaking the words to you as he did to the disciples. Then pray the prayer sincerely to the God who sent his Son to teach us and to give his life for us.
