Luke 11:5-8
And he said to them, “Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves, for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; and he will answer from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything’? I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs. Persistence can get us many things on earth. Persistence with healthy eating habits can help us lose weight, lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Persistence with exercise makes us fit and healthy, giving us more energy and takes years off of our lives. Many children discover that persistence when they want something often weakens their parents to give in. While I don’t believe that God ever weakens or gives in to us, I do believe that he desires us to be persistent in prayer. God will always answer our prayers. Sometimes it is not in the timing we prefer, but he always hears and answers. Persistence in prayer always brings about the good of God.
