Psalm 138:1-3
138:1 I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
I bow down toward your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
for you have exalted above all things
your name and your word.
On the day I called, you answered me;
my strength of soul you increased. (ESV)

The world is full of “gods” created by this world. From the gods of other religions to the gods that we create for ourselves in token things or occupations, we have many things to distract us from the true God. But there is only one God who deserves all of our praise, and we must praise him in the midst of these other gods. Look back to 1 Kings 18 when Elijah stood before the prophets of Baal and called upon the true God, see how Elijah praised God above all others and how the Lord answered him. Many people were turned to the Lord that day. When we call upon the true God and declare his name, just like Elijah, God will make us bold in front of our enemies. He will bless us as we bless him, turning others to the Lord.
