Psalm 31:1-5

31:1 In you, O Lord, do I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
in your righteousness deliver me!
Incline your ear to me;
rescue me speedily!
Be a rock of refuge for me,
a strong fortress to save me!

For you are my rock and my fortress;
and for your name's sake you lead me and guide me;
you take me out of the net they have hidden for me,
for you are my refuge.
Into your hand I commit my spirit;
you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God. (ESV)

It can be easy to say we trust God when things are going well and we are not facing major hardships. It is another thing altogether to place our full trust in him when we are in trouble or suffering. Committing our spirits to God is admitting that we cannot accomplish our purpose without him and that we cannot overcome our foe without his assistance. When we are able to commit our spirits to God, we allow him to mold us and shape us into who he wants us to be, freeing us from our foes and our fears.
