Luke 14:7-9
Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the places of honor, saying to them, “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you be invited by him, and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this person,’ and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place. I can’t count the number of times I have made assumptions and it has gotten me into trouble. God encourages us not to make assumptions when it comes to our friendships or to our importance in this world. God has a place for each of us, and because we are all part of his body, there is no place that is more important to God than another. If your role at a special event is to take out the trash or do the dishes, that role should be done cheerfully and completely, for without that task being accomplished, the event would not be complete.
