Luke 14:10-11
But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (ESV)

Humans can be so egotistical. Most of us want attention, even when we declare that we do not. We want to be noticed and to be important. But God desires humility from us. He gave us the ultimate example of humility when he left his throne in Heaven to be born in a barn, live as a carpenter’s son for many years until he became a nomad who never knew where he would sleep, face ridicule for years, and ultimately be hanged on a cross for the punishment of sins that he never committed. Wow. That makes me stop and think. It makes me examine my motives when I look for a place of honor at an event or in the eyes of a friend or co-worker instead of humbling myself to allow another to be in the place of honor. May Jesus once again be the example to us of humility and honor.
