Luke 14:25-27
Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. (ESV)

When I am going through a rough time or an unpleasant situation, it is easier for me to endure if I know it has an ending point. No matter how dirty the job or how boring the meeting, I know that there will be an end to it, so I can endure. It is not so easy when we carry the cross of Christ. For while we have the promise of eternity in Heaven with him, we don’t know when that is going to become a reality. We don’t have a concrete ending point to anything we must suffer for Christ. But to be his disciple we must be willing to do it anyway. We must be willing to suffer each day for him. This is a tall order for us some days, but it really pales in comparison to what he did for us.
