2 Chronicles 34:19-21

And when the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his clothes. And the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying, “Go, inquire of the Lord for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the Lord that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the Lord, to do according to all that is written in this book.” (ESV)

Scholars generally agree the hidden book was all or part of Deuteronomy. They disagree, however, as to how it became concealed. Some say it was carelessly misplaced, while others contend it was secreted away so that the previous wicked kings would not destroy it.

How many Bibles do you have in your house? How often do you read them? Do they gather dust? Owning a Bible that never gets used is tantamount to being careless with God’s Word. “An unread Bible is as useless as a lost one” (Life Application Bible).

How much of the Bible is safely hidden in your heart through memorization? What would happen if all your Bibles disappeared? Would you still be able to access God’s Word in your heart?
