Hebrews 9:25-28
Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. How great God is; how far-reaching his redemptive grace! For hundreds of years God gave honor to the imperfect sacrifices offered him on behalf of sinful men and women who wanted his favor. Jesus, the Son of God, fully God, fully man, sinless and pure in all his actions and motives, was the ultimate and substantive sacrifice. His was a one-time-only sacrifice that allowed God to “forget” our sin. We are so incredibly blessed to serve our Lord and Savior who, through his grace and mercy, frees us from the judgment of sin and its ensuing penalty.
