Hebrews 10:15-18

And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,

“This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds,”

then he adds,

“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. (ESV)

by Leota Stevens

While raising six children in a big and busy household, I have often had to write down individual chore lists for the children to follow. On occasion I would be delightfully surprised when the chores on the list had been accomplished and one or two of the children had gone the extra mile and cleaned or repaired something just because they knew it would make me happy. I wasn’t just a list of things to do; I was someone they loved and wanted to please. When we accept Christ’s sacrifice and forgiveness, his law becomes real in our hearts. It is no longer a matter of do’s and don’ts; it’s a matter of love and pleasing the one to whom our life is devoted. Great freedom is derived from serving humbly through love, rather than rigidly following a chore list for life.
