Hebrews 12:1-3
12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. (ESV)
by Leota Stevens
I watched as the young athlete took his place at the starting line of the race. He unzipped his windbreaker and warm-up pants, and gave them to his coach. Along with the other runners, he positioned himself for the race. The official counted down and fired his pistol; they were off and running! As the athletes neared the finish line, the crowd went berserk with shouts of encouragement to the runners on the track. As Christians, we too have a great cheering section. The lives that call out to us to lay aside the things that weigh us down, to stay the course and finish our race are in the grandstands of faith.
