Hebrews 12:4-7
In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons?
“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor be weary when reproved by him.
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.”
It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? (ESV)

Have you ever been “constructively” criticized and felt the sting of someone’s words cut clear through to your heart? Our human nature seems to have built-in-radar-shields that send us running for cover when they detect incoming verbal missiles that surgically strike at our bunkers of pride, sinful habits and selfishness. The walls we build to keep our private little thoughts of bitterness, self-pity, arrogance or jealousy safe from the public’s view are no stronger than those of ancient Jericho. God destroyed those walls for his children’s benefit then, and he destroys our fabricated barriers for our benefit now.
