Psalms 118:5-9

Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
The Lord is on my side as my helper;
I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes. (ESV)

by Leota Stevens

Have you ever had one of those days where every plan you made turned out to be a disappointment? I have put my trust in so many people who have failed to keep their word to me. I have put my trust in insurance companies and investments, only to see my confidence betrayed. If we allow it, disappointment can wrangle its way into the innermost part of our being and bring its heavy-laden clouds of despair to rain on our parade. The Psalmist knew that the only secure investment of our faith and confidence is when we place it in the Lord. The hope we place in him will never be disappointed.
