Proverbs 15:1-4
15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge,
but the mouths of fools pour out folly.
The eyes of the Lord are in every place,
keeping watch on the evil and the good.
A gentle tongue is a tree of life,
but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. (ESV)

If these words were practiced in each of our lives on a daily basis, I am convinced that the divorce rate would drop to an all-time low. Further, I believe church attendance would vastly improve, and the rate of juvenile delinquency would be positively affected. We are so prone to vent our feelings with no consideration of the impact on others. I am shamefully aware of the times I behaved like “Mom St. Helens” and erupted all over my brood of children and my patient spouse. I also recall with vivid delight the times that I have spoken just the right words, at just the right time, and blessed the hearer immensely. It is a choice that only we can make: to bless or to blast. The wiser our choice, the better our world will become.
