Isaiah 40:6-11
A voice says, “Cry!”
And I said, “What shall I cry?”
All flesh is grass,
and all its beauty is like the flower of the field.
The grass withers, the flower fades
when the breath of the Lord blows on it;
surely the people are grass.
The grass withers, the flower fades,
but the word of our God will stand forever.
Get you up to a high mountain,
O Zion, herald of good news;
lift up your voice with strength,
O Jerusalem, herald of good news;
lift it up, fear not;
say to the cities of Judah,
“Behold your God!”
Behold, the Lord God comes with might,
and his arm rules for him;
behold, his reward is with him,
and his recompense before him.
He will tend his flock like a shepherd;
he will gather the lambs in his arms;
he will carry them in his bosom,
and gently lead those that are with young. (ESV)

A voice crying out… I picture John the Baptist, standing on the top of the mountain, yelling to the valley below, “Here is your God!” Somehow, I have a very hard time imagining myself standing in that place! Thankfully, God has given us each different gifts. Although I do believe that each of us should do our part as a voice-crying-out, I think that we can go about it in different ways.
So what could we do, other than stand on the mountain with a bullhorn? What can you do where you are? How can you tell others about the Lord in your workplace? Can you be an example in your actions and words? Can you be a “voice crying out” in your own home? The Lord gives us opportunities each day to be witnesses of his love and to give him glory. Pray that he will show you how to do that today.
