Romans 12:9-13
Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. (ESV)

According to the dictionary, zeal means enthusiastic devotion to a person or cause. Fervor means to have passion or intensity of emotion. So we are to be serving the Lord with enthusiastic devotion and great passion. That sounds kind of exhausting! The beauty of that is that we do not have to do it alone. God works in our hearts and lives to give us the desire to serve him. If we allow him to work through us, we can serve him with joy and patience! As we are faithful in prayer to him, he will be faithful to give us what we need in order to do the work that he has called us to do.
