Psalm 60:1-5, 11-12

60:1 O God, you have rejected us, broken our defenses;
you have been angry; oh, restore us.
You have made the land to quake; you have torn it open;
repair its breaches, for it totters.
You have made your people see hard things;
you have given us wine to drink that made us stagger.

You have set up a banner for those who fear you,
that they may flee to it from the bow. Selah
That your beloved ones may be delivered,
give salvation by your right hand and answer us!

Oh, grant us help against the foe,
for vain is the salvation of man!
With God we shall do valiantly;
it is he who will tread down our foes. (ESV)

One of my husband’s favorite television shows is Antique Road Show on PBS. The show features antiques that ordinary people have stored in their houses for years. The experts on the show look over the item a person brings. These experts then declare its value as an antique and tell the owner how much to insure the piece. Most of the antiques lose their value if someone has tried to restore them. I guess that’s the difference between us and the stuff of this world. We need the Lord to save and help us, so that those he loves may be delivered (v. 5).
