Psalm 80:1-7
80:1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
you who lead Joseph like a flock!
You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth.
Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh,
stir up your might
and come to save us!
Restore us, O God;
let your face shine, that we may be saved!
O Lord God of hosts,
how long will you be angry with your people's prayers?
You have fed them with the bread of tears
and given them tears to drink in full measure.
You make us an object of contention for our neighbors,
and our enemies laugh among themselves.
Restore us, O God of hosts;
let your face shine, that we may be saved! (ESV)

I’ve been told that if you don’t ask the Lord for forgiveness when you pray, he won’t hear your requests. I don’t know how true that statement is. I’m not sure if we can know how God actually responds to our prayers. However, when I look at verse four of Psalm 80, I see that the people of Israel sometimes felt that God was not pleased with their prayers. The prayer formula I learned in college is good to keep in mind. ACTS: A-Adoration, C-Confession, T-Thanksgiving, S-Supplication. If we remember to include these four “acts” of worship in our prayers I think we can be sure that God will hear and respond each time we pray.
