John 20:24-29
Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”
Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (ESV)

Recently, I went through a very unpleasant job search. As I waited for the phone to ring, or took a call that told me I was a good candidate but they hired someone else I, like Thomas, had serious doubt issues. It was a very difficult time for me and, to be honest, my faith was weak. Over the months as I cried, questioned and felt more and more depressed, my church family gathered around me and assured me that God did have a plan and things would work out. They assured me that I was being covered in prayer. In those days, weeks and months, I leaned heavily on the faith of my church family. Eventually I did get a job and it was amazing to look back over the past year and see why it was THE job for me. God DID have a plan! As I doubted and leaned on others, he was patiently putting all the pieces together. When you doubt, lean on your Christian brothers and sisters for a “faith lift”, and know in your heart, that God is there.
