Hebrews 10:35-11:3
Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For,
“Yet a little while,
and the coming one will come and will not delay;
but my righteous one shall live by faith,
and if he shrinks back,
my soul has no pleasure in him.”
But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.
11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. (ESV)

True faith in Christ is similar to that exhibited by the Old Testament saints, as seen in the reference to Habakkuk 2:3-4 and the examples in Hebrews eleven. Faith is fixed on Christ and his appearing, not circumstances. Nothing causes its confidence to waver. Faith believes righteousness comes through believing in the promises of God. This verse was a spark for the Reformation. Faith also does not turn back in the face of suffering. This can be a challenge because we may not actually see the future in the present. How confident are you in the promises of God through Christ?
