Proverbs 3:3-10

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
So you will find favor and good success
in the sight of God and man.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones.

Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your produce;
then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine. (ESV)

by J. Gabriel Alegre

What is written on the tablet of your heart? This question is important—as you think in your heart, you are (Proverbs 23:7). Whatever fills your heart will govern how you are. This passage instructs us on some things which should fill our heart: God’s law, our obedience, mercy, truth, and trust in God. A heart so filled has no room for malice, selfishness, arrogance, or worldly wisdom. Fear the Lord and depart from evil—doing so will be health to your body and strength to your bones. God is ready, willing, and able to bless. If you are ready to receive his blessings, ask yourself, “Is my heart filled with things which find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man?”
