Psalm 65:1-8

65:1 Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion,
and to you shall vows be performed.
O you who hear prayer,
to you shall all flesh come.
When iniquities prevail against me,
you atone for our transgressions.
Blessed is the one you choose and bring near,
to dwell in your courts!
We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house,
the holiness of your temple!

By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness,
O God of our salvation,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the farthest seas;
the one who by his strength established the mountains,
being girded with might;
who stills the roaring of the seas,
the roaring of their waves,
the tumult of the peoples,
so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe at your signs.
You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy. (ESV)

David lauded God’s greatness, in the natural and in the spiritual. He praised God for His extraordinary willingness to forgive and bless those He chose. David was aware that God had given him all good things. David was absolutely overwhelmed with God’s awesomeness. He knew the Provider and Sustainer of his life and gave Him fair praise. We, as Christians today, need to do the same.

What a beautiful prayer of praise and adoration! David acknowledged that God alone is majestic. He asked God to teach him godly ways. David longed to understand the ways of God; he recognized God’s mercy and kindness. He promised that, if only God would show him the truth, he would walk in God’s ways forever. David recognized that God delivered him from death and would help him be faith-filled.

David wanted to be included in God’s coming kingdom, and he asked God to make room for him. This is a lesson for us today. We must daily ask God for His provision and inclusion. We must give ourselves over to God for His purpose every day. What a joy to go to God through Jesus and ask for His grace, peace, and blessing every day!
