Luke 16:10-12
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own? (ESV)
by Sheri Rood
Jesus made a clear distinction here between the “faithful” and the “unrighteous.” The unrighteous is the one to whom the wealth of another was entrusted, yet was unfaithful with it. That servant will not be entrusted with true riches, also belonging to another. Verse 13 explains these are two different masters and we cannot serve both. Our money is part of the world’s system, which is in Satan’s domain. Spiritual riches come from God. The use of our money, then, is a spiritual battle with eternal consequences.
“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21). A faithful community uses earthly wealth wisely and therefore can be trusted with heavenly wealth.
