Object Lessons From African Life

Bettie B. Pearson

Here are twenty-one lessons that you can use to teach your children at home, add additional strength to a Sabbath School lesson, or solve the semi-perpetual question, “What valuable lesson will I try to teach with the next childrens’ message?”

“I found it natural to draw spiritual applications from objects which show life on the African continent,” the author wrote about this book.

In 1954, David and Bettie Pearson went for missionary service to Nyasaland, Africa. Through six terms of service with the Seventh Day Baptist Missionary Society, the Pearsons saw Nyasaland become independent and change its name to Malawi, saw children and adults using interesting objects in everyday life, and discovered ways to share the good news of Jesus Christ with those who were ready to listen.

They retired and returned to the United States of America in 1988. However, their service in Malawi did not end. Between 1988 and 2001, they returned to Malawi three times for nine to ten month terms.

The Teaching Leader Cover

The Teaching Leader

Dr. Ernest K. Bee, Jr.

Teaching-learning is an integral part of the church’s ministry. The teaching leader’s goal is to guide disciples to complete their personal conviction and commitment to Christ with an increased knowledge and practice of the Christian faith.

The author identifies a Scriptural framework for a theology of Christian Education, the Biblical keys that open the way to know the LORD, and the Biblical guides by which Seventh Day Baptists have primarily stressed knowing the LORD.

Scripture is quite clear on the importance of leadership to the fulfillment of the covenant community’s mission ‘to make disciples who know the LORD.” Recognizing that pastors are the key teachers of the local congregation, Bee explores the historical pastoral teaching roles, the practices of Seventh Day Baptist pastors, and suggests a model for developing teaching leaders in the local church.
