We want to let you know why we say that
The Seventh Day Baptist Board of Christian Education will promote the local church preparation of Christians for maturity by encouraging and modeling specific, active commitment to Evangelism, Nurture, Discipleship, and Stewardship.
In part, we say it because we know that God wants His people to grow, especially in the areas of grace and knowledge.
Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
- 2 Peter 3:18 (NASB)
And we know that even as God has promised to cause growth, God has told us to work, train, and fix our eyes on Jesus. We are responsible for our actions and decisions. And, we know that Christians are not to go it alone. We are supposed to consider how we can help our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another.
Hebrews 10:24-25 (NASB)
Our goal is to work for maturity in Christians. Maturity is not demonstrated by knowledge. Even though it can be helpful to produce people who can trounce others in Bible quizzing or who can obliterate the competition when a Bible column shows up in Jeopardy, for the Christian, maturity is measured by demonstrated love grounded in the work and revelation of God. We know this because Paul told Timothy that
The goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
1 Timothy 1:5 (NASB)
Love is built by God though the local church. Any sustained effort at educating Christians belongs in the local church among the people of God. This organization remembers that and is striving to keep it ever before ourselves by incorporating that understanding in our mission statement:
The Seventh Day Baptist Board of Christian Education will promote the local church preparation of Christians for maturity by encouraging and modeling specific, active commitment to Evangelism, Nurture, Discipleship, and Stewardship.
