We should always trust the wisdom of God’s actions. Though not stated overtly, we can see in this passage an element of doubt by John and his followers. John was in prison and that did not really fit their understanding of how things would work under the Messiah’s reign. Jesus pointed to how His works fulfilled the wisdom of God’s plan, as evidenced by the fact that they were prophesied throughout the Old Testament. When things do not go the way you think they should or God does not answer your prayers they way you want Him to, you can trust God’s wisdom and give Him glory in the midst of difficult times.
