And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Evangelism is one of the most important things followers of Jesus are called to do. No one can force another to believe something. All one can do is inform others of the truth, pray for that person, and let the Holy Spirit work. That middle task is crucial—pray. Prayer is what Jesus commanded His disciples to take part in (v.38). Pray that God will turn those who do not know Him towards Him. Then pray that they will in turn go out, spread the word, and pray for others to do the same.
