—Matthew 26:36-46
by: Dorothy Noel.
Between Jesus’ prayers, He called on His disciples to pray and watch with Him. In extreme anguish, He focused explicitly on what was to come and prayed for relief. Yet despite His regular reminders, His closest friends abandoned Him to their physical need for sleep. Finally, the hour came for betrayal, and Jesus called for their attention again. “Behold,” meaning to call attention to, appears in verses 45 and 46. Jesus called them back to Himself, hoping that now, as things got worse, they would pay attention. How often do we lose focus and see only our own physical needs? What outside of yourself is Jesus calling you to “behold” today?
