—Nehemiah 13:4-9
by: Gem Barton.
This biblical account of Nehemiah cleansing the temple reminds me of the time when Jesus threw out the money changers from the temple in Jerusalem (Mathew 21:12-13). The House of God should be a house of prayer but is often turned into a place of business. There is always need for such a cleansing, even in our bodies, which are temples of our living God (1 Corinthians 6:19). Cleansing of the temple requires a radical approach to remove things that are ungodly. Today is a good day to start that process—starting internally and then thinking about what changes should be made to our places of worship.
