God rewards His servants when they are faithful in doing good. The widow at Zarephath was no doubt a faithful woman—a kind woman given into hospitality. Water and food were scarce at that time. Yet Elijah, a man unknown to her, did not have to ask this woman twice for water. She sounded apologetic that she did not have bread to give him (v.12). Yet in faith, she took Elijah at his word and shared what she had with him. God rewarded her for her faithfulness. That is the same God we serve today. “Let us not become weary in doing good” (Galatians 6:9a, NIV) but rather follow this woman’s example in serving God by serving others.
