When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

It is interesting to discover where people’s thoughts go when they know they are close to death. Some are sad to leave family and loved ones. Some regret things they did not accomplish. Some are afraid of what lies ahead. Jesus was close to death, yet His thoughts and love were still focused on those around Him—first to the man hanging on the cross next to Him, then towards His mother. Although Jesus knew He would not stay in the grave, it was important for Him to be sure His mother was taken care of and to know she would not be alone when He was gone. There is so much we can learn about love from our wonderful Savior.
