—Matthew 27:35-43, 45-50
by: Dorothy Noel.
It’s easy to kick a dog when it is down, and that is what many were doing to Jesus while He hung on the cross. The guards, passersby, robbers, and priests all mocked Jesus, feeling superior to Him in that moment. Jesus did not respond, focused instead on the pain in His body and the work He was doing for those same people. His cries called the people around to remember His humanity and wonder what might happen next. Yet, at that moment, Jesus had the most human response to pain. Feeling abandonment and experiencing death, His cries ached for relief.
