—Exodus 20:18-26
by: Tabatha Pethtel.
The people of Israel trembled with fear as they listened to the voice of the Living God. They were afraid and told Moses how frightened they were of God. But Moses reassured them that God had come to test them. The fear of God would keep them from sinning. So, what does it mean to fear God but not be afraid of God? To fear God is to acknowledge His holiness and power. It is to respect and honor Him while standing in awe of His majesty. Whereas being afraid of Him is more a matter of not trusting or wanting to be a part of God’s Kingdom because you do not know or cannot trust what will happen. Fear God, but do not be afraid. He can be trusted.
