—1 Corinthians 7:1-7, 32-35
by: Judith Houts.
The Apostle Paul was both against immorality and in favor of spending quality time with God. God has the undivided attention of a single person. When that person marries, his or her attention is now divided between spouse and God, possibly making one or both of these relationships more stressful. When Paul calls married couples not to deny their bodies to each other, except when seeking God through prayer and fasting, his intention was to keep the marriage pure by keeping sin out and God in. Single or married, God should be the center of our lives.
