On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
When they heard these words, some of the people said, “This really is the Prophet.”

Jesus cried out to the people around Him to come to Him and drink! The world is in desperate need of God’s revitalizing rivers of living water, which is the Holy Spirit. The image of rushing water is often soothing and refreshing for a soul who has travelled over hard paths and is in need of a cool drink. Jesus was sharing the news of a source of comfort and peace that comes with the presence of the Holy Spirit and is never-ending. The world is a weary place for those who do not know the rivers of living water that God promises for those who believe.
