—1 Samuel 3:1-10
by: Grace Crouch.
Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli regularly but did not know Him personally. It was not until he heard the Lord’s voice that he began his true experience with Yahweh. Let us not miss the importance of hearing the Lord. He desires our prayers and our service, but He also has much to say to us. All relationships require communication. The Hebrew word that is translated as listening is “shama” which means more than to listen. It carries with it the idea of listening with the intent to obey. Samuel was telling the Lord that he was ready not only to hear but also to do whatever the Lord was about to say.
